HOW TO EXPLAIN DRUWAYU

HOW TO EXPLAIN DRUWAYU MORE DIRECTLY TO OTHERS
It is asked frequently how one explains Druwayu to others, which given the amount of information provided on this Church website, it is understandable it can seem difficult.
However, it isn't as complicated as many assume. So with that in mind, the following has been constructed for clarity and better insight.
Druwayu is a new religious movement and polytheistic philosophical religion organized as the First Church of Druwayu. It describes itself as a distinct religion rather than a branch of paganism, Wicca, Christianity, or another existing faith. The church states that it was formally established in 2024 in Oregon by its founder, Raymond S. G. Foster.
Its core beliefs, according to the church's own descriptions, include:
One God and Three Goddesses. Druwayu describes its theology as quadrotheistic—belief in one supreme God together with three coequal Goddesses who work cooperatively rather than competitively.
Logic, Humor, and Absurdity. These are presented as the religion's guiding philosophical principles:
Logic emphasizes reason, evidence, and accountability.
Humor is intended to encourage humility and resilience.
Absurdity acknowledges that meaning is not automatically given by the universe and that people consciously create meaning.
Truth and honesty. The religion places strong emphasis on intellectual honesty, admitting uncertainty when appropriate, and encouraging critical thinking rather than blind acceptance.
The Drikeyu. Three foundational principles organize its worldview:
Worloga – fundamental laws or order of existence.
Wyrda – reciprocal cause and consequence.
Wihas – life or animating vitality.
Compatibility with science. Druwayu does not see itself as competing with science, but instead attempts to interpret spiritual ideas alongside scientific knowledge.
Voluntary participation. The church is no forced conversion or required initiation and emphasizes the principle: "We don't impose, and we won't be imposed upon."
Organization
Basic Structure:
General Followers are called Druans.
The clergy use the traditional titles Warlock (male clergy) and Witch (female clergy).
The governing council is called the Drusidu.
What makes it different?
Druwayu explicitly is not:
Paganism
Heathenry
Occultism
Satanism
A parody religion
Atheism
Anti-theism
Instead, it presents itself as a unique religion combining polytheistic theology with philosophy and rational inquiry. It also welcomes participation from skeptics and agnostics, saying belief should not be coerced.
In summary, Druwayu is a recently founded, independent religion centered on belief in one God and three Goddesses, with a strong emphasis on reason, honesty, voluntary participation, and a philosophical framework that seeks to integrate spirituality with critical thinking and science. Most detailed information currently available comes from the church's own publications, so independent academic analysis of the movement is still limited.
A COMMON ERROR
Druwayu is frequently compared to existing religious, philosophical, and esoteric traditions because many of its outward features appear familiar. It acknowledges deities, recognizes clergy, values philosophy, and encourages spiritual inquiry. Yet these similarities are superficial. At its foundation, Druwayu is structured upon a framework unlike any other: the Drikeyu.
The Drikeyu—Worloga, Wyrda, and Wihas—is not merely one doctrine among many. It is the foundational reality through which every doctrine, practice, moral principle, theological concept, and philosophical conclusion is interpreted. Every belief within Druwayu must be consistent with the Drikeyu. If a concept contradicts the Drikeyu, it is rejected regardless of its popularity, antiquity, or religious authority.
Likewise, the Three Pillars of Logic, Humor, and Absurdity are not independent doctrines but practical expressions of living according to the Drikeyu. Logic seeks to understand Worloga, Humor prevents dogmatism within Wyrda, and Absurdity acknowledges that while reality possesses objective order, individuals remain responsible for creating meaning within it.
Because of this unique foundation, Druwayu cannot accurately be categorized within any existing religious or philosophical family. While it may occasionally resemble aspects of other traditions, it ultimately diverges from each at the level of first principles.
The Foundation: The Drikeyu
The Drikeyu consists of three inseparable realities:
Worloga – the intrinsic order and lawful structure of existence.
Wyrda – the universal principle of reciprocal consequence, interdependence, and causation.
Wihas – the living vitality that animates existence, though in and of itself is unknowable.
None of these may exist independently of the others.
Reality is therefore understood as lawful, reciprocal, and living simultaneously.
Every theological claim, ritual practice, ethical decision, or philosophical conclusion must align with these three principles.
This immediately distinguishes Druwayu from systems that begin with revelation, scripture, mystical experience, authority, tradition, or subjective spirituality.
Why Druwayu Is Not Paganism
"Paganism" is an umbrella term rather than a single religion. It encompasses hundreds of reconstructed, revived, and modern traditions that often have little agreement with one another.
Most modern Pagan traditions emphasize combinations of:
nature spirituality,
seasonal ritual,
reconstruction of ancient religions,
magical practice,
ancestral customs,
or personal eclecticism.
Druwayu shares little to none of these as defining characteristics.
Nature is respected but not worshipped.
Ancient cultures are researched but not imitated.
Tradition is appreciated but never treated as authoritative.
Magical arts are neither required nor foundational.
Most importantly, Pagan religions generally derive legitimacy from historical traditions or reconstructed practices. Druwayu derives legitimacy only from consistency with the Drikeyu.
Its theology therefore stands independently of the broader Pagan movement.
Why Druwayu Is Not Heathenry
Modern Heathenry generally reconstructs pre-Christian Germanic and Norse religion.
Heathen theology centers around:
the Æsir and Vanir,
ancestral customs,
historical reconstruction,
the Nine Worlds.
Although Druwayu uses certain linguistic roots derived from Old English and Germanic languages, these are not attempts to recreate Germanic religion, and it also recognizes shared linguistics with many so called Celtic and Slavic linguistic roots as well.
"Wyrda" within Druwayu is not identical to the Heathen concept of wyrd.
Likewise:
Worloga is not the Anglo-Saxon or Norse orlog.
Wihas is not the Old English concept of life-force.
The Four Divine Persons are not equivalent to the general concepts often presented as Odin, Frigg, Freyja, or other Germanic deity.
Shared vocabulary does not imply shared theology.
The underlying metaphysical systems are entirely different.
Why Druwayu Is Not Occultism
Modern Occultism generally refers to traditions centered upon hidden knowledge, esoteric initiation, magical correspondences, secret symbolism, or mystical techniques, which is a far cry from its original concept of seeking to discover and uncover the hidden things and workings of nature and the cosmos.
Druwayu rejects the idea that truth must remain hidden.
Knowledge should be examined openly.
Claims should withstand logical scrutiny.
No initiation grants secret access to truth.
No hidden hierarchy possesses exclusive authority.
Mystical experience may occur, but experience alone never establishes doctrine.
The Drikeyu—not secrecy—determines truth.
Why Druwayu Is Not Satanism
Modern Satanism exists in several forms, including atheistic, symbolic, and theistic traditions.
Despite their differences, these traditions generally define themselves in relation to the Abrahamic concept of Satan.
Druwayu does not.
Its theology neither depends upon nor reacts against Christianity.
It contains no central ultimate devil like figure.
No cosmic dualism exists between ultimate good and ultimate evil.
No rebellious adversary defines human freedom.
Its ethics arise from Wyrda rather than opposition.
Its theology arises from the Drikeyu rather than Biblical inversion.
Accordingly, Druwayu has no theological relationship to Satanism.
Why Druwayu Is Not a Parody Religion
Parody religions intentionally employ satire to critique religion, politics, or society.
Their symbols frequently imitate existing religions for humorous or political purposes with a goal of using religion as an argument against religions by spoofing religions and demanding the same privileges of the very things they are mocking and condemning.
Humor certainly exists within Druwayu.
However, Humor is one of the Three Pillars precisely because it tempers pride, certainty, and dogmatism.
Humor never replaces sincerity.
The religion is presented as a genuine metaphysical system.
Its doctrines are intended literally rather than satirically.
Its rituals possess genuine religious significance.
Therefore, Druwayu cannot accurately be described as a parody religion.
Why Druwayu Is Not Atheism or Anti-Theism
Atheism simply denies belief in the existence of any deities but does not rule out a possibility in a general sense, but requires some sense of personally satisfactory proofs to change such a view.
Anti-theism is the active opposition, rejection, or hostility toward the belief in the existence of a god or gods, frequently paired with the belief that religious institutions and theistic doctrines are harmful to society.
Druwayu explicitly affirms divine persons.
The Four Divine Persons are neither metaphors nor psychological archetypes, and though treated with a sense of agnostic perception they are not themselves purely symbolic expressions of some specialized departments of reality.
Druwayu also differs from many traditional forms of theism because it rejects unquestioning faith as a virtue.
Belief should follow evidence, reason, and honest inquiry.
Faith also cannot override the Drikeyu because faith is itself a product of the Drikeyu in one form or another.
Thus Druwayu rejects both unquestioning theism, dogmatic atheism and extremist antitheism.
Why Druwayu Is Not Compatible with Pantheism
Pantheism identifies God with the universe itself.
Everything collectively is God.
Druwayu rejects this identity.
Reality possesses lawful structure.
Reality possesses living vitality.
Reality includes divine persons.
But the universe itself is not identical with the divine.
The Four Divine Persons exist in relationship with reality rather than being reducible to it.
Therefore, Druwayu distinguishes Creator and creation without separating them into disconnected realms.
Why Druwayu Is Not Compatible with Panentheism
Panentheism teaches that the universe exists within God while God also exceeds the universe.
Although this appears closer to Druwayu to some assumptions than pantheism, it remains incompatible.
The Drikeyu does not describe existence as existing "inside" a singular divine being.
Rather, reality is understood through lawful order, reciprocal causation, living vitality, and the cooperative activity of Four Divine Persons.
This metaphysical structure differs fundamentally from panentheistic ontology.
Why Druwayu Is Not Compatible with Monism
Monism teaches that ultimately all distinctions reduce to one underlying substance or reality. While Wihas may seem to be that substance or essence it is a misleading equivalent
Worloga is not Wyrda.
Wyrda is not Wihas.
Wihas is not Worloga.
The Four Divine Persons remain genuinely distinct from these three cosmological concepts they are regarded as expressed by and through.
Creation remains genuinely distinct.
Unity exists through relationship rather than identity.
Reality is fundamentally relational rather than reducible.
Why Druwayu Is Not Compatible with Dualism
Dualistic systems divide existence into two opposing ultimate realities.
Examples include:
spirit versus matter,
good versus evil,
light versus darkness.
Druwayu recognizes tension but rejects cosmic opposition between equal ultimate forces.
Conflict exists.
Two and only two genders exist.
Opposition exists.
not everything reduces into dualism.
Yet all remain subject to the lawful structure of Worloga and reciprocal operation of Wyrda and bound in the common essence of Wihas.
There is no eternal war between equally ultimate principles.
Why Druwayu Is Not Compatible with Monotheism
Monotheism teaches that only one divine person exists.
Druwayu explicitly affirms one God together with three Goddesses.
These Four Divine Persons are distinct while cooperating perfectly.
They are neither manifestations of one person nor independent competing deities, or four persons or personifications of a singular unknowable ultimate other.
Why Druwayu Is Not Polytheism in the Conventional Sense
Although Druwayu acknowledges multiple divine persons, its theology differs substantially from classical polytheism.
Traditional polytheistic religions often describe extensive pantheons whose members possess competing jurisdictions, rivalries, genealogies, and localized authority.
Druwayu instead recognizes one God and three Goddesses functioning cooperatively through the unified framework established by the Drikeyu.
The Four Divine Persons are not competing tribal deities.
They are neither morally arbitrary nor politically divided.
There is no denial of concepts of other lesser deities but there is also an avoidance to simply try and blur diverse and unrelated pantheons of different cultures into a singular all consuming and excessive stagnant list of such things.
In other words, Druwayu rejects claims all deities are simply the same deities expressed differently among diverse cultures and all of them expressions of some ultimate source mind or principle.
Thus "polytheism" alone is often used in a generic sense for Druwayu, though its designation of quadrotheism more accurately reflects its core theology.
Why Druwayu Is Not Limited to the Concepts of Animism
Animism generally attributes spiritual agency or personhood throughout the natural world.
Druwayu certainly recognizes Wihas as life's animating vitality.
However, Wihas is not equivalent to every object possessing an independent spirit.
A living reality need not imply universal personhood, though there is also a recognition of the concept of innumerable wights.
The Drikeyu describes existence as alive, ordered, and reciprocalfrom which all wights arise, and populate existence as innumerable autonomous spirits but stops at attributing higher inteligeance to things like the elements and various forces of nature in and of themselves.
Why Druwayu Is Not the Academic Construct Called "Shamanism"
The modern academic category "shamanism" groups together many indigenous ritual specialists across unrelated cultures. The term itself has become increasingly controversial because it often imposes one generalized framework upon vastly different traditions.
Druwayu does not depend upon trance.
It does not require ecstatic spirit journeys.
It does not require intermediary specialists to communicate with spirits on behalf of the community.
It does not derive authority from altered states of consciousness.
Spiritual experiences may occur.
Visionary experiences may occur.
Neither establishes doctrine.
The Drikeyu remains the final measure.
Accordingly, Druwayu does not fit the academic category commonly called shamanism.
Why Druwayu Is Not Mysticism
Mysticism generally emphasizes direct personal union with some concept of a transcending, singular ultimate reality.
Druwayu values contemplation and insight.
However, subjective experience never overrides objective order.
Personal revelation must remain accountable to Logic and the Drikeyu.
Experience informs understanding, yet, it does not define reality.
Why Druwayu Is Not Syncretism in the Loose or general Sense
Many new religions combine doctrines from multiple traditions.
Druwayu does not intentionally blend existing religions as some sort of attempted reconciliation or hybrid.
Similarities occasionally arise because different traditions sometimes observe comparable truths and shared source information.
Shared ideas do not imply shared origins.
Every doctrine within Druwayu must independently satisfy the Drikeyu regardless of where similar ideas may appear elsewhere as a guide post which helps establish its underlining consistency.
Conclusion
The defining characteristic of Druwayu is not its clergy, its rituals, its vocabulary, or even its theology of one God and three Goddesses.
Its defining characteristic is the Drikeyu. Everything else follows from it.
Worloga establishes objective order.
Wyrda establishes reciprocal consequence.
Wihas establishes living vitality.
Together they form the lens through which every belief is examined.
Because Druwayu begins from this unique foundation, it cannot be accurately classified as Paganism, Heathenry, Occultism, Satanism, parody religion, atheism, pantheism, panentheism, monism, dualism, conventional monotheism, conventional polytheism, animism, mysticism, syncretism, or the broad academic construct often labeled "shamanism."
It is not a variation of those systems, nor an attempt to reconcile them. Where agreement exists, it is incidental and limited. Where conflict arises, the Drikeyu takes precedence. Druwayu therefore stands as a distinct religious and philosophical tradition whose identity is defined internally by its own first principles rather than externally by comparison with preexisting categories.
